Pretty in Pink's
"May I admire you again today?" - Duckie, Pretty in Pink
This lovely set of flowers was made for my Boyfriends mom, Teri. After admiring the set I created for my apartment, and then the set for my mom, she wanted a set of her own.
The idea for these shifted throughout the process of creating them. The wall they were being made for changed 3 times, which altered the size the whole thing needed to be drastically. This is a good time to note, if you are looking at giant paper flowers as a decor idea for your own space- giant ones need to have an area where they can stick about 5-8 inches off the wall. We had originally discussed putting these on the landing on the stairs, but they would impede walking space by sticking off the wall. Smaller flowers take up less horizontal space, and are better suited for walking areas. This definitely influenced the placement of these. The highest and largest flower stands about 6.5" off the wall while the lowest and smallest flower only stand about 3.5".
The entire set spans about 9 feet, and took roughly two weeks to finish. There are 8 colors; Dark Pink, Light Pink, Linen, Cream, Tan, Pearl White, and Gold; and there are 1 Extra Large, 3 Large, 4 Medium, 4 small, and 9 mini flowers in the entire display. These are mounted using standard picture hooks. The set featured a new design, the Hibiscus, made by folding ridges into the petals. This has quickly become one of my new favorite designs.
This display is located on the wall across from the front door, and draw your attention as soon as you come through the door. They are such a statement piece, and Teri says that it has entirely livened up a wall that she used to hate. They add so much height and color to an otherwise bland unused space. They were the perfect addition for the living room!
